Mass Observation
Mass Observation was formed in 2011 by Theo Simpson and Ben Mclaughlin. We operate a practice which encompasses art direction, graphic design and photography. Alongside commissioned projects we continue to publish books and print editions. This activity provides an on-going critical discourse, forming an integral part of the studio's working process.
Our published output investigates the mechanics of the built environment, along with social, political, economical and topical issues, intent on further examining our everyday experiences and surroundings. Our publications have been regularly featured in international journals including Art Review and Dazed & Confused Magazine.
We have exhibited internationally in the USA, Canada, Europe and frequently in the UK leading to our work being acquired by various collections including the V&A National Art Library. We regularly give talks, lectures and workshops within educational and cultural institutions.
